Chiropractic Care for Older Adults

Discuss comfort, movement and care that fits your health history.

Bring your symptoms and goals into the conversation

If neck or back discomfort is making everyday activity harder, tell us what has changed and what you would like to do more comfortably. We review your history and examination findings before discussing whether care at our clinic is appropriate.

Chiropractic care is one possible option for certain musculoskeletal symptoms. It should not be presented as a way to reverse aging, guarantee pain-free living or prevent every age-related problem.

Match the approach to your health

Spinal manipulation may offer small improvements in pain and function for some people with low back pain. Its benefits and risks depend on the condition and the person. Existing health problems can affect the risk of injury, so a thorough assessment and an accurate medication history matter. Read NCCIH’s guide to spinal manipulation.

Let your provider know about osteoporosis, fractures, recent falls, surgery, medications and recommendations from other clinicians. Discuss which techniques, if any, are appropriate. Your plan may involve modified hands-on care, movement advice or a referral rather than an adjustment.

Set useful, individual goals

Ask how care might help the activities that matter to you, how progress will be assessed and when recommendations will be reconsidered. Share any soreness or new symptoms rather than assuming they are simply part of getting older.
