The idea of adjustment is not necessarily popping or cracking. I've been doing this for about 14 years now and I wanted to share something with you. I want to share about what chiropractic is. So much uncertainty out there about how it works and what it does for people popping joints back into place and whatnot. There's a way to kind of look at it. And here's what I want you to do.
Imagine the spine, right? Take the spine and take away all the soft tissues like muscles, ligaments, tendons, discs. If you take it away, what happens? The spine simply falls apart. So the spine is just building blocks. Everything that gives us stability is soft tissues. Everything that makes it move is soft tissues. And everything that stops it from moving is soft tissues.
What is chiropractic? If I was to summarize that, I'd tell you it's just a deep stretch. You see, soft tissues are predictable. The more you stretch it, the more it stretches. We find what doesn't move, and we make it move.
We don't just pop the joint back into place. Popping and cracking doesn't necessarily indicate anything. Think about it like this. If you pop a joint in your knuckle, did you fix something? Did you break something, necessarily? It doesn't really mean much.
Even though to some it sounds pleasant, interesting, good... And in reality, it can relieve some pressure in the joints temporarily, but it's not necessarily what it is. The idea behind adjustment is a stretch, it's a deep stretch.
