What is the purpose of the massage? Like previously mentioned in the other articles on this website “Life makes our connective tissues tight”. Massage can be done for many reasons. I will limit this conversation to the reasons why massage is done at our clinic. Here is a thing that I love about massage. Results are always predictable. Have you ever heard about rheology? Tissue rheology is deformation of a muscle. Look at it this way. Every object, has a deformation rate. For example: if you take a plastic bag and pull it really hard it will stretch fast. If you pull it less hard it will stretch as well, but its going to take longer to do so. Thus in order to stretch muscle you need force and time. Think about splits. Everyone can do it, it takes force and time. More force, then less time and if less force, then it takes longer time. Most musculoskeletal pains are associated with muscle tension/spasm. There are superficial muscles, there are middle layer of muscles and then there are deep layers. Massage mostly can address problems with connective tissues that are at the superficial and middle layers. Chiropractic addresses deep layers of connective tissues.
