What is chiropractic? Some will tell you that we put bones in place. Some will tell you we fix subluxations. Others will say it’s just a neuromuscular re-education. All are correct, but what does it really mean? Let me try to simplify this for you. Whole philosophy behind chiropractic is this “MOTION IS LIFE”. Anything and everything that is without motion in our body starts to slowly degenerate and loose its function. Most of you probably heard this before “use it or loose it”. You are made out of bones, ligaments, muscles, nerves and vessels. Connective tissues are muscles and ligaments. All motion and stability occurs through the help of connective tissues. If there was no connective tissues our bones would be all over the floor just like bunch of legos would be. For example in order to walk muscles have to pull and relax in right time and right place to move joint and create motion. Pay attention here. Life makes our connective tissues (muscles and ligaments) tight which restricts motion of the joint. Connective tissues then will apply pressure on nerves and blood vessels that will cause a variety of symptoms.
How does chiropractic work? Think of it as a deep tissue massage/stretch. Doctor of chiropractic finds decreased motion in a joint and moves it in position that is restricted by connective tissues, thus increasing range of motion by decreasing a local spasm. Decreasing a muscle spasm in this way also decreases pain.
